James Nichols

Senior Pastor

Dr. J grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and has a passion for three activities: football, baseball, and stock car racing. Between his freshman and sophomore years at Woodlawn High School, the Lord came into his life and soon Dr. J’s plans took a dramatic turn. Recognizing that going forward his life would be very different, Dr. J. joined a youth group at a local church. A short time later, he felt God’s call into full-time Christian ministry.
After high school, Dr. J. attended and graduated from Samford University and then The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministries degree. While attending seminary, he met his wife, Susan; they married in May of 1982. James and Susan have three children: Sharon, Jay, and Grace.
Over the years Dr. J played his role in many different ministries. He’s a man who is committed to his Lord, his family, and ministry. Dr. J’s passions now include his family, the communication of God’s truth, Alabama football. And yes, he’s still a stock car nut.

David Fletcher

Minister of Education & Administration

David Fletcher has served as the Minister of Education and Administration at Chapel Hill Baptist Church since 1997. A native of Danville, Kentucky, David attended Eastern Kentucky University where he was heavily involved in Baptist Campus Ministries and met the young woman who would one day become his wife. David accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and experienced new spiritual birth in 1975. However, in 1984 David realized that God was asking more of him and David surrendered to God’s call to serve Him vocationally.
While attending the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, David married Angela Miller (Angie), his good friend from his college days. You might say they prove the old adage that it really does matter who you hang out with and spend most of your time with. David and Angie have two wonderful daughters: Laura and Olivia.
David enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and listening to all kinds of great music. When he is able, David also loves hiking and back-packing. David’s passion in life is studying and teaching others the Bible and making disciples who are also passionate for following Christ.

Rob Livingston

Minister of Children & Recreation

Rob Livingston grew up in Tamaqua, Pa. He played baseball, he bowled, and played the tenor saxophone. It was the saxophone that brought him to Tuscaloosa in 1997 to march in the Million Dollar Band. Along with traveling with the Tide, he received his degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. In 2001 he met a beautiful woman who helped introduce him to Christ. In 2002 he gave his life to Christ and was baptized. He started working at Chapel Hill’s Summer Camp that same June. Rob was a counselor for two summers before taking over as Director in 2005, and is still very involved today.
The same beautiful girl who led him to Christ became Rob’s wife in May of 2003. Erica and Rob have three wonderful children: Henry, Coelton, and Lillia. Erica works as the Freshman Chemistry Lab Coordinator at the University of Alabama. When they are not working they enjoy spending time together with their kiddos.
Rob began as a volunteer Children’s director, worked bi-vocationally for years, and in 2013 was moved to full time Director of Children’s Ministries and Recreation. Rob currently drives a local elementary school bus route for the Tuscaloosa County School System. If you see a school bus driver with an unusual hat, that’s probably Rob!
Rob enjoys spending time with his family, Alabama football, and traveling. He still enjoys bowling and dreams of bowling his 3rd perfect game (300) someday. Until then, he will just be happy teaching his kids how to play baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, and (just about) anything else they’d like to learn.

Ken served as senior pastor of Northridge Baptist Church in Northport for 30 years before retiring from the full time pastorate in 2009. Northridge named him Pastor Emeritus. Over his 30 years of ministry in Tuscaloosa County, Ken served in many areas of denominational life at both the association and state levels as well as First Vice Chairman of the North American Mission Board.
Retiring to the Cheeks simply means “redirection” in ministry. They joined the Chapel Hill family and began leading the senior adult ministry. Over the next 7 years in addition to working with the seniors at Chapel Hill, Ken served as interim pastor for 4 other churches. In January of 2017 Chapel Hill asked him to join the staff as Associate Pastor.

Although Susan is a native East Tennessee gal by birth, she has lived in Tuscaloosa all of her life. Because she has family near Knoxville, she visits as often as possible, making sure to visit her beloved Cades Cove camp ground in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Her early schooling began at Verner Elementary, ending with graduation from Tuscaloosa High School. Her undergraduate and graduate work in English was completed at the University of Alabama. Susan loves to read anything, to keep a daily journal, and to research. She is a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she teaches a Bible-based Women’s Sunday school class, is a Circle leader and teacher, and sings with the Sanctuary choir. A music lover, she has played the piano since the age of 6 and sings with the Prentice Concert Chorale Community Chorus. Classical music is her go to, but she also loves anything Broadway. In fact, she likes to travel to New York each December to catch musicals as well as take in the Christmas atmosphere and lively crowds. Of course, visits to fave restaurants Sardis, Un Deux Trois and John’s pizza are always on her agenda as are a leisurely walk through Central Park and a trek to Macy’s to see the wonderful animated windows. A fan of the Tuscaloosa symphony and Theatre Tuscaloosa, Susan loves to attend performances and even travels to Birmingham frequently for off- Broadway shows …followed, of course, by a trip to the Bright Star for dinner.

Susan looks forward to a yearly October beach trip in Gulf Shores as well as a fall foliage trip to East Tennessee. She loves to travel and has fond memories of trips to Italy, Greece and France and looks forward to visiting England, Scotland and Ireland in the near future. She is the mother of six plus cat children and obviously cannot say no to a cute kitten who needs a home. Susan’s younger brother Mark lives in Northport and works for the Corps of Engineers. He and wife Jane have a daughter Jennifer, who is her traveling buddy on European and New York adventures. Her older brother, Gordon and his wife Sandee live in Birmingham. Stacey Johnson

Child Development Center Director

My name is Stacey Johnson. I am a Northport native and graduate from Tuscaloosa County High School. Early on in my life I realized God had given me desires, talents and abilities to work with young children. Through His amazing “interruption” in my life I found the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama. Here I graduated with a degree in Child Development with a concentration in Child Life. After five years in the working world, I returned to get my Master’s degree in Child Life.
I am blessed to be surrounded with a wonderful family. My husband and I have been married 15 years. We have three children, two He allowed us to raise here on this Earth and one He is holding for us in Heaven! My oldest daughter is twelve and my youngest son is seven. As a family we enjoy trips to the beach, riding bikes at the Riverwalk and simply being together. When I am not busy with baseball, softball or other family activities I really like to shop!
